Mars Boys WWI War Memorial

1921 date of event 21st April.





Dundee – A war memorial taking the form of a granite Celtic cross was unveiled at Woodhaven Pier, Fife, in memory of the boys of the Mars Training Ship who were killed in the War. The site of the memorial is precisely opposite the anchorage of the training ship on the Tay, and it was unveiled by Principal J. Yule Mackay, University College. It was intimated that as far as was known over 150 boys fell in the War, and at the ceremony wreaths were placed on the memorial.

The whole cost of the memorial, which takes the form of a Celtic cross, was subscribed by the boys past and present.
